Help Make Ends Meet

This is a critical time of year for our Safety Net Services team, as winter weather, soaring electric bills, and food needs strain the lives of many people and families across the county. Almost one third of people in Marin live paycheck-to-paycheck and more than half of those are people of color.

Too many children go hungry when parents are forced to choose between paying rent or putting food on the table. With the increase in the cost of living in Marin County over the last few years, many in our community find themselves with severe economic and related hardships. 

Our agency’s safety net programs help individuals, families, seniors, and people with disabilities get emergency financial and basic needs met, including food, utilities and water, rental assistance, transportation, and other critical resources. 

This is why we are asking for your generous support today. Our passionate team works year-round to increase well-being, helping to give people a step up and regain their confidence and stability. This past year, we provided $130,000 in emergency cash assistance to 276 households, over $1 million in rental assistance to 339 households, and $714,000 in energy assistance to 941 households. That’s thousands of people staying safe, housed, and secure!

·$50 assists an older adult with a 1:1 financial coaching session to help them live within their budget and access available resources.  

·$100 gives an unhoused person a good sleeping bag and gloves for the cold weather and connects them to needed supports.  

·$500 gives a one-time cash grant to someone in need or pays for a pet deposit to that someone can move into a new home with their animal companion.
